Awakening the Slumbering Church!

One comment

“Fire Over Central Alabama,” a prophetic vision and warning of slumbering, or “apathy”: “I was in the spirit hovering over the state of Alabama. It wasn’t a map, but the boundaries were outlined like a map. The central part of the state from the Birmingham to Montgomery area was on fire, and I could see stars falling. There is a great fire of the Holy Spirit coming to this part of the state of Alabama. The stars are angels. There is much angelic activity in this area as a result of much intercession. The Lord said we must always keep an eye on apathy, or it will sneak up on us and extinguish our fire. The Lord said to keep an eye on apathy; keep it in check. Beware of the thief who comes to steal your passion. Renew yourself in the fire of God’s relentless love for you, and keep a watchful eye out for apathy.” – A prophetic vision given Archbishop Charles Jones, Charismatic Episcopal Church.

The vision above is several years old. Since that time, apathy or slumbering has swept across the Church in America. And while many sleep, the enemy continues to take his toll and establish a foothold around the world. For example, the ungodly, demonic activity of ISIS in Iraq is enough to make anyone’s skin crawl.
But what is amazing is the incredible amount of indifference found among most people. Most people aren’t paying attention. It’s like we think somebody is going to do something to solve the crises facing us. Americans, as a whole, have been blinded, deluded and unbelievably paralyzed by what has taken place in Washington, as the president does pretty much whatever he pleases against the will of the nation. Day after day, month after month and year after year go by while our representatives wring their hands in dismay, but it appears little happens to prevent the president’s next move in the wrong direction.

The Harbinger: A Must Read!
If you haven’t read The Harbinger, you owe it to yourself to do so. In this amazing and I’d even say a “supernatural” book. Messianic Jewish Rabbi Jonathan Cahn lays out a vision of what will happen to an unrepentant America after 9/11. He warned if we didn’t awaken out of slumber and apathy, we would fall on very hard times or even destruction of this country, as we know it. This isn’t a fantasy. Everything that Cahn wrote came straight from confirmations through the Word of God and situations that were amazingly tied to the history of the nation and with Israel. The illustrations, dates and comparisons are uncanny.

And even if you question the validity of his vision, one would have to concur that the events that followed 9/11 did indeed line up with an ancient prophesy found in Isa. 9:10. Below is the context. Note in the comments Israel’s arrogant attitude that THEY would rebuild. This is the same arrogance re-quoted by US representatives following 9/11, yet they failed to read the verse in context because their and our attitudes actually brought the judgment of the Lord upon them:

8 The Lord sent a word against Jacob,
and it fell on Israel;
9 and all the people knew it—
Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria—
but in pride and arrogance of heart they said:
10 “The bricks have fallen,
but we will build with dressed stones;
the sycamores have been cut down,
but we will put cedars in their place.”
11 So the Lord raised adversariesc against them,
and stirred up their enemies,
12 the Arameans on the east and the Philistines on the west,
and they devoured Israel with open mouth.
For all this his anger has not turned away;
his hand is stretched out still.

For an excellent summary of the book, go to Here you find the specifics and actual video comments by US representatives re-quoting the prophecy but not as a judgment but as a kind of positive statement that WE can rebuild. Rabbi Cahn saw this – and I agree – that this re-quoting of the passage was nothing short of humanistic defiance. Isn’t it amazing that our representatives would all repeat this same obscure passage from the Scriptures?

When the Twin Towers fell, it uprooted a sycamore tree that became known as “The Sycamore Tree of Ground Zero.” In November 2003, an Erez (conifer) tree was placed into the spot of the fallen sycamore and became known as “The Tree of Hope.” The tree has died!

A recent news event from WND: The Tree of Hope has died!
A tree that was placed at the site of the 9/11 Muslim terror attack in New York City has died, has been removed, and destroyed.
“Harbinger” author Jonathan Cahn says it’s because of his book that the tree will not be replaced.
His work examines the nine harbingers, or warnings, recorded in the Bible that were delivered to Israel before the nation disintegrated. He contends God is giving the same nine warnings now to America to urge the nation to repent.

One of the harbingers was a sycamore tree at Ground Zero, which after the destruction of the Twin Towers was replaced by an evergreen, a move Cahn believes follows the Isaiah prophecy.
Now the replacement tree is gone, he said.
“The ancient sign of nearing national judgment has been manifested. The erez tree has fallen. The seventh harbinger now speaks of impending judgment. The Tree of Hope, the symbol of America’s resurgence … is dead,” he explained.

“The keepers of the Tree of Hope did everything they could to save the withering tree. They even changed the soil in which it grew. But no matter what they did, the tree continued to wither away and die,” said Cahn.
“Finally, in the spring of this year, the tree planted in the place of the fallen sycamore of Ground Zero, the symbol of a rising America, was uprooted. … The seventh harbinger is no more.”
He had written in his book a prophetic word concerning America’s Erez Tree, the Tree of Hope, saying, “…but when a nation such as this places its hope in its own powers to save itself, then its hope is false. Its true hope is found only in returning to God. Without that, the Tree of Hope is a harbinger of the day when its strong cedars come crashing down to the earth.” Read more at

Repentance and Slumbering Spirits
Can we rekindle the fires of American Christians to awaken their spirits to understand the time at hand, the saving of America? I think there are two answers: 1) Of course repentance for whatever sins are being harbored in our individual lives. We all know this and understand it, but 2) the chief thing, as I see it, is slumbering spirits that make up the slumbering Body of Christ. I wrote about slumbering spirits in my book, “Deeper Water for Thirsty Souls” (

In short, a slumbering spirit is literally when our spirit “falls asleep” and becomes unaware of the presence of Spirit of God within us. Yes, we can become soulishly excited with our heads and even our emotions but remain unmoved in our human spirit to follow hard after God. It’s obvious to the casual reader that these Scriptures are NOT talking about literal sleep! Here are just a few Scriptures from the Bible regarding this:

Job 32:8 NAS – But it is a spirit in man, And the?breath of the Almighty gives them understanding.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 – . . -And the dust returns to the ground it came from../and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
Proverbs 17:22 NAS-A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.
Isaiah 56:10 NAS – His watchmen are blind, All of them know nothing. All of them are dumb dogs unable to bark/Dreamers lying down, who love to slumber.
I Corinthians 2:14-The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them.
I Thessalonians 5:4-8 – But you, brothers are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. For those who sleep, sleep at night and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
Revelation 3:3 – Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wakeup, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.
Revelation 16:15 – “Behold, l am coming like a thief. Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his garments, lest he walk about naked and men see his shame.”

Most Americans are worried but not sure what to do. Of course voting right is the answer to some change, but our changing more from within will do more for the nation than elections. We know, black, Hispanic or white, wealthy or poor, have been disgusted with the promises that are rarely kept, as we continue our slide. God’s Hand is still reached out, as He did to a defiant Israel, as noted in Isa. 9:12, even as our enemies, the radical Muslims, the Chinese, the North Koreans, and now once again Russia, are lining up against us to bring us down.

Yes, the “bricks have indeed fallen,” but unless the Lord builds (or rebuilds) the house, the builders labor in vain (Psa. 127:1).
